We are saddened to share news of the untimely passing of Aidan Higgins.

A native of Galway, Aidan had a top level rugby career at Connacht and London Irish, lining out against the All Blacks at the Showgrounds in Galway as well as club playing time with Galwegians and Lansdowne.

Aidan returned to these shores and settled with his family in Greystones and initially stepped in to help coach underage sides with his sons Darragh and Cian before broadening his contribution to play a significant role in the advancement of youth rugby within the club.

A larger than life character he freely shared his deep knowledge and love of the game and through his coaching and encouragement helped in development of a generation of youths players some of whom went on to gain representative honours and others still feature on our first team today.

On behalf of our Club President Anne Bowes, Executive and members of Greystones RFC we offer our deepest condolences to Aidans wife Julie, daughter Aoife, sons Darragh a former first team player and Cian and his extended family.

Reposing at the ‘Cillin’ within the Church of Mary Immaculate Queen, Barna, Co Galway (H91 A2T7) on Thursday, September 26, 2024 from 5.00 p.m. to 7.00 p.m. Requiem Mass will be celebrated for Aidan on Friday, September 27, at 11.30 a.m
