Welcome to Greystones Rugby Club and Dr Hickey Park!
It is both an honour and a privilege to step into the role of President for the 2024/2025 season. As the first female president in the 87-year history of this club, I am proud to represent the incredible progress and inclusivity that Greystones RFC embodies. I would like to extend my gratitude to my predecessors, especially Michael McNaughton, for his remarkable leadership last year. He has set a high standard, and I am committed to building on the foundation he has laid as we launch our new core values and vision to focus on the season ahead.
I am thrilled to see our senior mens squad, under the capable leadership of captain Eoin Marmion and coach Danny Kenny, continue their journey in Division 2A. The squads determination and skill will surely bring us more memorable moments this season, home and away. Our senior women;s team, led by new captain Emma Costello and coach Jason Emery, also has an exciting year ahead, with a growing number of talented young players coming through from the youth section.
I want to highlight the immense contributions of our junior men’s teams and their dedicated coaches, whose hard work has consistently yielded success. The strength of our youth and mini sections, led by new youths rugby director Denis Casey and a devoted team of volunteers, remains the backbone of our club’s future. Our Seagulls adult and youth teams continue to embody the true spirit of rugby, showcasing joy and passion for the game. A heartfelt thank you to everyone involved in these sections who give their time, energy, and passion.
None of this would be possible without the continued support of our sponsors, whose generosity enables us to thrive. I’d like to acknowledge our main sponsors, including Peter and Ross Doyle, NFP, Dywer Nolan and O’Gorman Properties and many others who contribute to the ongoing success of the club. A special thank you to new sponsors joining us this year - your partnership is invaluable.
Finally, I would like to extend a warm welcome to all visiting teams, supporters, and officials. Thanks to Willie and the ground staff, who ensure our pitches are the envy of many clubs, and we hope you enjoy our wonderful facilities and the hospitality offered by Justin O’Reilly and our friendly staff and volunteers in the Paul McNaughton Pavilion. To our own supporters, I look forward to seeing many of you at our exceptional AIL pre-match lunches, and thank you for your unwavering loyalty. Your presence and encouragement mean the world to our players, so let’s continue to cheer them on with pride and respect for the game.
As we embark on another season filled with hope, hard work, and great rugby, let’s remember the many friendships we’ve made along the way and honour those we’ve lost, whose spirit remains with us.
Here’s to another fantastic season for Greystones RFC.
