Michael McNaughton was elected President of Greystones RFC for the 2023/24 season at the clubs AGM held in the club last Tuesday. A former player with a long history of involvement in the club Michael has been coaching our Second XV for the last couple of years and is a younger brother of the late Paul McNaughton.
Michael succeeds Breffni O’Hagan who presided over one of the clubs most successful seasons in recent years culminating in promotion to Division 2A of the Energia All Ireland League, a cup and league double for the U20’s and a league triumph for the fourth team.
Speaking after his election Michael took time out to reflect on how proud his brother Paul would be to see him following as President of the club and how he will miss his presence even if it was only to pick him up on errors in his speeches. In accepting the club Presidents blazer from outgoing President Breffni O’Hagan, Michael honoured Paul by wearing his late brothers blazer.
The AGM also elected the executive committee for the coming season with Niall Savage succeeding Donall Gannon as Chairperson and Tom Nolan succeeding Anne Bowes as secretary, a position she is relinquishing to take up the role of Senior Vice President ahead of becoming the clubs first female President in the 2024/25 season. Jerome O’Brien was elected a Trustee.
